PEPFAR Health Professional Fellowship Program


The US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has, through USAID Nigeria, provided

funding to the Leadership, Management and Sustainability (LMS) program of Management Sciences for Health (MSH) to improve skills and strengthen the management and leadership capacity of health care providers, Nigerian networks and direct-service organisations delivering HIV/AIDS and TB services by way of a Health Professionals Fellowship Program.

The Health Professionals Fellowship Program is designed to build the capacity of health professionals to effectively respond to the challenges they face in managing and delivering HIV/AIDS and TB services in Nigeria. The program which is organized into four interrelated components: classroom component, practicum segment, community-based activities and mentoring support mechanism, is delivered over 9 weeks in Abuja, Nigeria.  This round of the Fellowship Program is focused on supporting the National TB program to achieve improved management and delivery of TB services.  Health professionals working in this area are by this announcement encouraged to apply to the Fellowship Program.

Who is Eligible?
Prospective participants must either be Chest Physicians in the tertiary institutions, TB Nurses or States TB DOTS program coordinators/managers. In addition, they must meet the following essential requirements:

Essential requirements:
•    Ability to show commitment to complete the program
•    Must have over five yrs on-the-job experience providing TB services
•    Must be working in either a government or faith-based health facility that offers TB services.
•    Commitment to work as a member of inter-professional team
•    Commitment to work in a practicum site agreed by the project team
•    Ability to communicate effectively in English Language


Desirable requirements:
•    Must be willing to volunteer his/her time for community service
•    Basic skill on the use of Microsoft  Word, Excel and PowerPoint
•    Good writing skill

The Application Process
•    All prospective applicants are expected to apply online by filling the application form on  or before 26 February 2010.
•    The final selections will be decided by a panel composed of health professionals, a team of mentors and the Fellowship Program support team.
•    MSH staff members who are part of the Fellowship Technical team, their family members, members of the selection committee and their family members, are not eligible to apply.
•    All successfully shortlisted applicants will be contacted two weeks after the closing date.
