SCIENTIFIC OFFICER (COORDINATION) AT AFRICA UNION(Lagos-Nigeria)

In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of its organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts.

The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for a position of Scientific Officer (Coordination) in the Department for Human Resources, Science & Technology.

1. POST:

Post title : Scientific Officer (Coordination)

Post level: P2

Unit: Department for Human Resources, Science & Technology

Immediate Supervisor: Senior Scientific Officer (Coordination) (

Duty Station: Lagos, Nigeria



2. Major duties and Responsibilities



a) To assist in promoting the objectives of the programs and joint projects within Member States.

b) To assist in coordination and promotion of research, development and application of appropriate and sustainable scientific and technological options for development of Africa in the following fields:-

• New and renewable sources of energy

• Information Technology

• Industrial Technologies

• New and renewable sources of energy

• Technology management and planning

• Health, energy, water, or agriculture.

c) To assist in preparation of documents and scientific papers and publications, organization of technical meetings, seminars, workshops and symposia.

d) To assist in follow-up actions on recommendations of meetings.

e) To assist in keeping and disseminating to Member States information, records and databases of major scientific and technical advances and in collaboration with Member States and international partners, promote the application of the appropriate technologies using cost-effective technology transfer modalities.

f) To carry out any other duties which may be assigned.



3. Educational qualification:

Candidates must have at least and M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in industrial engineering or related field.



4. Work experience:

Candidates must have at least three years experience in their field of specialization and knowledge of other fields. Administrative and managerial experience will be an added advantage.





5. OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS:

o Computer literacy;

o Excellent knowledge of data analysis and programme/ project management, ;

o Management experience, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to organize and motivate others, and to work in a multi-cultural environment;



o Excellent drafting and reporting skills;



o Good communication and negotiating skills;



o Good planning and organizational skills.



6. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:



Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be an added advantage.



7. AGE REQUIREMENT:



Candidates must preferably be between 25 and 35 years old.





8. TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:



The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

11. REMUNERATION:



Indicative basic salary of US$29,619.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. post adjustment (57% of basic salary), housing allowance (US$21,196.8 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
